Seoul Autonomous Police Survey... 'Most Suitable Community Policing Activity' Ranked 1st

Awareness of the Autonomous Police System is 73.9%

[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Police Committee, marking its second year since establishment, conducted a survey of 2,000 people to stabilize the autonomous police system.


The awareness of the Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Police System (respondents who answered "know about it") was 73.9%, an increase of 13.6% compared to last year (60.3%). The main source of awareness was "mass media (TV, newspaper, radio)" at 63.7%.

When asked about agreement on the positive effects of the autonomous police system, "Possibility of police activities suitable for local conditions" scored the highest at 79.7%, and other items such as "Shortening the installation time of traffic safety facilities (73.3%)" also showed a high agreement rate above 70%, indicating strong expectations for providing police services that reflect local characteristics and residents' needs.


Regarding the projects that need the most strengthening by sector, respondents answered ▲In the field of public safety: "Creating a crime prevention environment in areas densely populated by single-person and female households," ▲In the protection of socially vulnerable groups: "Prevention of domestic violence and support for victims," and ▲In traffic safety: "Installation and management of traffic safety facilities."


Additionally, for the next three years, the sector requiring the most budget investment was identified as "public safety and crime prevention (51.3%)," suggesting that neighborhood safety improvements and crime and accident prevention activities should be strengthened.


Based on the results of this awareness survey, the committee plans to actively reflect citizens' opinions to provide life-close police services needed by the public, prioritizing citizens' safety and promoting Seoul-tailored safety policies.


Kim Hak-bae, Chairman of the Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Police Committee, said, "The increased awareness of the autonomous police system is very positive." He added, "Based on this awareness survey, we will do our best to promote police activities desired by citizens to create a safe Seoul free from crime and accidents."
