[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Kang Do-hyung, former director of the Jeju Research Institute (principal researcher), was inaugurated as the 11th president of the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) on the 1st. His term is four years, until the end of January 2027.
Newly appointed President Kang Do-hyung graduated from Inha University with a degree in Oceanography in 1997 and earned his master's and doctorate degrees in Marine Biology from Jeju National University. Since joining the Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute, the predecessor of KIOST, in 2006, he has held key positions such as Director of the Jeju Special Research Center and Director of the Jeju Research Institute.
His main research areas are marine bio and microalgae, and his research achievements have been transferred to related companies for practical use. Since 2009, he has also served as a professor at the University of Science and Technology (UST*), and has been actively involved in external activities such as serving as the Secretary-General of the Korean Society for Biotechnology and a member of the Jeju Regional Innovation Council.
President Kang Do-hyung said, “This year marks the 50th anniversary of KIOST, and I will do my best to lead the development of marine science and technology and to make the institute loved by the public through creating economic and social value.”
