Seongnam City Rolls Up Sleeves to Train Semiconductor Design Experts... Recruiting 35 Trainees

Announcement for Recruitment of Trainees for the System Semiconductor Design Academy in Seongnam City

[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province is launching a program to train specialized personnel in system semiconductor (non-memory semiconductor) design.

Seongnam City announced on the 1st that, in collaboration with Gachon University, the Korea Fabless Industry Association, and the Semiconductor Engineering Society, it will conduct theoretical and practical training to cultivate specialized personnel in semiconductor design, and is recruiting 35 trainees for the "System Semiconductor Design Specialized Company (Fabless) Academy" until the 13th. Trainees will be connected to employment upon completion.

The program targets unemployed youth under 34 years old who have graduated (or are expected to graduate) from a four-year university or a junior college specializing in electrical and electronic engineering. Residents of Seongnam City will be given priority in selection.

Selected candidates through document and interview screening will receive fabless specialized education over three semesters for 10 months from March 2 to December 30.

The curriculum for each semester includes ▲ Integrated circuits, circuit theory, digital and micro logic circuits (March to June) ▲ Measurement experimental engineering, analog and digital circuit design, embedded system design and practice (July to August) ▲ Team project execution, participation in company matching day and recruitment briefing sessions (September to December).

The training will be held at the Industry-Academic Cooperation Building of Gachon University located in Bokjeong-dong, Sujeong-gu. After completing the training, the Korea Fabless Industry Association will assist with employment at fabless companies.

The total project cost of 525 million KRW required for the entire program will be shared with Seongnam City covering 77% and Gachon University and the Korea Fabless Industry Association covering 33%.

To apply for the academy, applicants must submit documents such as an application form, self-introduction letter, and graduation (or expected graduation) certificate through the Gachon University website within the deadline. There is no separate tuition fee.

Last year, Seongnam City first launched this project, and among 30 graduates, 23 (76.6%) were employed by fabless companies located in Pangyo Techno Valley 1 and 2.

A city official stated, "Among 110 fabless companies nationwide, 44 (40%) are located in the Seongnam area," adding, "The fabless personnel we train will help resolve the industry's manpower shortage and become high-level talent driving Seongnam as a special city for the 4th industrial revolution."
