[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] During the first month of the new year, 216 medical products obtained approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS).
According to the MFDS on the 1st, from January 1 to 29, the agency approved 139 pharmaceuticals, 4 quasi-drugs, and 73 medical devices. In the 3rd and 4th weeks (16th to 29th), 60 products received approval.
Among the recently approved products, attention was drawn to Korea Roche's new drug "Bavismoju" (generic name: Faricimab), used for treating macular degeneration, and LG Household & Health Care's quasi-drug "Perio Quick Foam Cleaner," which uses a new method of spraying foam to clean dentures.
Additionally, Lunit's medical device "Breast Cancer Imaging Detection and Diagnostic Assistance Software," which marks suspicious areas of malignant breast lesions on breast tomosynthesis images and quantifies the likelihood of their presence to aid breast cancer diagnosis, also received approval.
The MFDS plans to regularly provide updates on medical product approvals and actively disclose information of high public interest.
