[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Myongji Hospital announced on the 1st that it has opened a 'Lung Cancer and Lung Transplantation Center' capable of rapid diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer as well as high-difficulty lung transplantation.
The center has established a 'fast-track' system that completes the process from diagnosis to treatment and surgery in the shortest time, including promptly conducting detailed examinations such as CT scans on the same day suspicious signs of lung cancer are detected.
In particular, from the early stages, multidisciplinary care is conducted involving the departments of pulmonology, thoracic surgery, radiology, hematology-oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, and nuclear medicine. The multidisciplinary care establishes a patient-tailored treatment plan through thorough consultations with patients and their guardians based on imaging diagnosis and biopsy results. Additionally, systematic postoperative management supports patients' rapid recovery through rehabilitation, exercise, and dietary education provided by dedicated coordinators.
The center is led by Professor Baek Hyo-chae, an authority in lung cancer and lung transplantation. Professor Baek, who served as the head of the Lung Cancer Center at Severance Hospital, is recognized as a top expert in the field, having performed over 370 lung transplants?more than one-third of all lung transplants in Korea?conducted research on metastatic lung cancer, and established standard treatment guidelines according to the 'Lung Cancer Treatment Guide.' Professor Lim Jeong-gi of the Department of Radiology, who has served as the Vice President for Research and Dean of the Medical School at Seoul National University as well as the Deputy Director of Seoul National University Hospital, is responsible for CT interpretation.
Lee Wang-jun, Chairman of Myongji Hospital, said, "After recruiting Professor Baek, who is called a pioneer in lung cancer and lung transplantation, and about 100 days of preparation, we have opened the Lung Cancer and Lung Transplantation Center equipped with optimal infrastructure." He added, "Through the opening of this center, we will not only advance as a hospital capable of performing the four major organ transplants?kidney, liver, heart, and lung?but also open new hopes and visions by entering the 'Top 4' in lung transplantation in Korea."
