[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police for Fairness will actively utilize 'digital forensic' techniques this year in four major focused investigation areas: violations of the Petroleum Business Act, Passenger Transport Service Act, Door-to-Door Sales Act, and Youth Protection Act.

The Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police announced on the 1st that throughout this year, they plan to intensively crack down on ▲ violations of the Petroleum Business Act such as manufacturing and selling counterfeit or substandard petroleum products (January to September) ▲ violations of the Passenger Transport Service Act such as illegal paid transportation using private vehicles for profit (February to October) ▲ violations of the Door-to-Door Sales Act such as sales by unregistered multi-level marketing companies (March to November) ▲ violations of the Youth Protection Act such as proxy purchasing of alcohol and cigarettes for minors (March to December).

The Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police noted that important evidence or clues related to these crimes are increasingly stored in information storage media including computers and closed-circuit (CCTV) systems, and thus decided to actively apply scientific investigation techniques not only in Petroleum Business Act cases but also in economic, welfare, and real estate crime investigations.

Related reports can be made through the Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police website, the KakaoTalk Plus Friend 'Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police for Fairness,' or by contacting the Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police Scientific Investigation Team.

Kim Kwang-deok, head of the Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police for Fairness, emphasized, "Crimes of yesterday that threaten the safety of the future cannot be tolerated," and added, "We will concentrate all investigative capabilities under a zero-tolerance principle by fully mobilizing scientific investigation techniques to create an environment where all residents can feel safe."

Meanwhile, last year the Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police identified and referred to the prosecution a total of 90 offenders: 39 involved in illegal petroleum distribution, 20 violating the Passenger Transport Service Act, 15 violating the Door-to-Door Sales Act, and 16 violating the Youth Protection Act.
