Seoul City, 2023 Green Seoul Practice Contest Project Promotion

Focused Support in the Field of Resource Circulation

[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Green Seoul Citizens Committee announced on the 1st that they will promote the ‘2023 Green Seoul Practice Contest Project,’ in which citizens directly solve environmental problems in daily life and reduce greenhouse gases to respond to climate change, with a total support of 400 million KRW.

The eligible applicants are nonprofit private organizations, nonprofit corporations, or social cooperatives located in Seoul. They can apply by selecting from designated projects and general projects in five fields (resource circulation, climate and air, ecology, environmental health, environmental education). From this year, the city will select a focused theme among designated projects considering policy relevance and timeliness and promote it intensively. This year’s focused theme is the ‘Zero Waste Culture Expansion’ project, which requires various practices in daily life such as reducing single-use plastics and waste. The maximum support per project is 30 million KRW, and for the focused theme, up to 50 million KRW is available.

Applications can be submitted online through the Local Subsidy Management System Botam-e from the 13th to the 16th, between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. The Local Subsidy Management Committee will fairly evaluate the applications based on criteria such as ▲appropriateness of project purpose and content ▲capability of the executing organization ▲adequacy of budget plans.

The selection results will be announced on the Seoul city website in March and will also be notified individually. For more details, check the city website or contact the Seoul Climate and Environment Policy Division.

The city will hold a project briefing session and a presentation of last year’s best cases on the 3rd at 2 p.m. in the large conference room on the 13th floor of Seoul City Hall Seosomun Building 1. The briefing will also be live-streamed on the Seoul Climate and Environment Headquarters YouTube channel (search ‘Seoul Climate and Environment Headquarters’ or ‘Zero Seoul’ on YouTube).

Seoul will provide multifaceted support to ensure smooth project implementation by executing organizations. Additionally, to enhance fairness, transparency, and publicity effects, the selection details, project execution plans, and final performance reports will be disclosed online to citizens.

Lee In-geun, head of the Seoul Climate and Environment Headquarters, said, “We expect great interest and participation in the ‘2023 Green Seoul Practice Contest Project,’ where citizens proactively improve environmental issues and seek various practices to respond to climate change and reduce greenhouse gases for 2050 carbon neutrality.”
