[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Kyung-jun] A poll released on the 31st showed that in a hypothetical two-candidate runoff vote for the People Power Party leadership election to be held on March 8, Assemblyman Ahn Cheol-soo is leading Assemblyman Kim Ki-hyun by a margin beyond the margin of error.
According to a poll conducted by Gallup Korea commissioned by Segye Ilbo from the 26th to 27th of this month targeting 1,006 men and women nationwide aged 18 and over (with a sampling error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level), Assemblyman Ahn received 59.2% support, ahead of Assemblyman Kim's 30.5%.
In a survey of 410 People Power Party supporters (with a sampling error of ±4.9 percentage points at a 95% confidence level), Assemblyman Ahn recorded a support rate of 60.5%, while Assemblyman Kim received 37.1%.
Among People Power Party supporters, Assemblyman Ahn received 58.7% and 57.2% support in the Daegu·Gyeongbuk (TK) and Busan·Ulsan·Gyeongnam (PK) regions respectively, while Assemblyman Kim recorded 38.1% and 38.9% respectively. In the metropolitan area, Assemblyman Ahn (Seoul 59.5%, Incheon·Gyeonggi 58.4%) also outperformed Assemblyman Kim (Seoul 35.6%, Incheon·Gyeonggi 40.8%).
Among all respondents, the preference for party leader was in the order of former Assemblyman Yoo Seung-min (34.6%), Assemblyman Ahn (28.4%), Assemblyman Kim (13.9%), former leader Hwang Kyo-ahn (3.8%), Assemblyman Cho Kyung-tae (1.6%), and Assemblyman Yoon Sang-hyun (0.7%).
Narrowing down to People Power Party supporters, the preferences were Assemblyman Ahn (42.8%), Assemblyman Kim (28.2%), former Assemblyman Yoo (11.9%), former leader Hwang (6.1%), Assemblyman Cho (1.7%), and Assemblyman Yoon (0.7%). Former Assemblyman Yoo announced his withdrawal from the leadership race on the same day.
