Lee Jae-myung, Accused of $3 Million North Korea Remittance Suspicion, Says "Sounds Like a New Novel, Probably Won't Sell"

[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the 31st regarding the suspicion that Ssangbangwool sent $3 million to North Korea as funds for his visit to North Korea during his tenure as governor of Gyeonggi Province, "It seems like the prosecution has come up with a new novel, but judging by their previous creative skills, it probably won't sell well."

Lee made this remark during a meeting with reporters at the National Assembly on the same day, addressing the allegations of remittance to North Korea reported by the media.

According to some media reports, Kim Sung-tae, former chairman of the Ssangbangwool Group, reportedly stated during prosecution testimony that "a total of $8 million was delivered to North Korea, which included $5 million for North Korea's smart farm support project in Gyeonggi Province and $3 million for Lee Jae-myung's visit to North Korea when he was governor of Gyeonggi Province."

The Democratic Party's Committee for Countermeasures Against Prosecution's Dictatorial Political Oppression also issued a statement criticizing, "The prosecution's falsehoods and fabrications show no sign of stopping," adding, "After Daejang-dong and Seongnam FC, now it's Ssangbangwool. The method of spreading false information based solely on one-sided testimonies that flip like a hand is a carbon copy."

Meanwhile, Lee, who expressed his willingness to respond to the prosecution's re-summons, did not answer questions regarding the schedule of the summons.
