According to the city on the 31st, the reading marathon is an online reading race that combines reading and marathon, where participants complete a pre-selected reading course, and the pages read by participants are converted to 2 meters per page and accumulated.

Eligibility to participate is open to anyone who is a member of the Jeongeup City Library, either individually or as a family, and applications can be made through the library website.

The reading race courses include a course for children under 7 years old, walking course (5 km), shortened course (10 km), half course (21 km), and full course (42.195 km). The children’s course is recognized as completed if the participant has borrowed more than 120 books during the competition period without writing a review.

The applicable books include not only books borrowed from the city library but also books personally read. However, comics and magazines are excluded.

After the competition ends, the city will present completion certificates and souvenirs to all finishers, and plans to increase the number of book loans from 5 to 10 in 2024.

In addition, outstanding finishers will be awarded the Jeongeup Mayor’s Award and the Jeongeup Office of Education Superintendent’s Award, and for full course finishers, the recorded reviews will be published as a book.

A city official said, “Reading enriches the mind and is an excellent nourishment for realizing dreams,” and added, “We hope many citizens will participate in this year’s reading marathon competition to communicate through books and nurture their dreams.”
