[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, concluded the “Open Field Meetings,” which were held by touring 18 neighborhoods since last September to realize field-centered communication administration, after five months.
Seo-gu announced on the 31st that it completed all schedules of the open field meetings presided over by the district mayor with the meeting in Nongsong 1-dong on the 30th.

Since the launch of the 8th local government, Seo-gu has promoted the open field meetings to listen to the voices of the neighborhoods (dong) closest to residents’ lives, discover field-centered policies, and establish a horizontal communication structure to discuss village issues together.
As a result, Seo-gu discovered Brand Identities (BI) reflecting the identity, characteristics, history, and stories of the 18 neighborhoods and decided to carry out resident participation projects based on the BI in the future.
Pungam-dong, a key neighborhood by region, was designated as “Healing Resting Place, Healthy Village,” highlighting its natural environment such as Geumdangsan Mountain and Pungam Lake. Geumho 1-dong was named “Coexistence Village,” reflecting the will of local merchants and residents to create a warm village living together with socially vulnerable groups.
Dongcheon-dong, where half of the population is young people in their 30s to 50s with high interest in education and childcare, was named “Dadok Dadok Book Village,” and Chipyeong-dong, leading in resource circulation and aiming to pass on a sustainable village to children, was named “Green Wave, Gamtan Village.”
In addition, the other 14 neighborhoods also completed BIs reflecting the colors of their villages.
Each neighborhood strengthened communication among staff through activities such as Communication Day, MBTI finding, and book reading meetings, while neighborhood chiefs and team leaders took the lead in managing civil complaint desks to improve the quality of administrative services.
Starting next month, Seo-gu will operate “The Mayor’s Office Beside You on the Go” as Communication Administration Season 2.
Seo-gu Mayor Kim I-gang plans to work in neighborhoods every Tuesday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., listen to residents’ difficulties, collect opinions to solve village issues, and visit local markets to further strengthen field-centered communication administration.
Through operating the “One-day Kind Manager” as a civil complaint guide assistant and listening to employees’ working conditions and suggestions, Seo-gu will also seek directions for improving administrative services.
Mayor Kim said, “Realizing ‘The Living Government Beside You,’ which captures residents’ voices and improves their lives, must start from the neighborhoods,” and added, “Ultimately, we will complete a new local autonomy model created by good power and good neighbors.”
Meanwhile, Seo-gu won the highest award in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s system improvement evaluation last November, in which 226 local governments nationwide participated, by establishing a network between key neighborhoods and connected neighborhoods.
