[Asia Economy Reporters Hyunju Lee and Youngwon Kim] On the 31st, the People Power Party strongly criticized Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who recently stated that the prosecution's investigation is a price to pay for losing the presidential election.

Joo Ho-young, floor leader of the People Power Party, said at the party's floor strategy meeting held at the National Assembly that day, "This is not something that happened because of losing the presidential election, but a case where all related parties were arrested due to issues raised within the Democratic Party regarding what he himself committed while serving as mayor of Seongnam."

Floor leader Joo pointed out, "This is not just one or two cases, and even for a single case, multiple investigations should be conducted, but he only appeared twice and then said he could not appear anymore, and then appeared once more saying it would be the last time," adding, "I don't understand why this case involving Lee Jae-myung should be ignored without even an investigation."

He continued, "Moreover, the Democratic Party claims to be staging protests outside the legislature to defend personal corruption," and said, "While I have seen protests outside the legislature for democratization movements, this is the first time I have seen protests demanding that personal corruption investigations be stopped."

Seong Il-jong, chairman of the Policy Committee, also said, "He is not being called as a defeated presidential candidate, but as a criminal suspect."

Chairman Seong criticized, "Stop creating the image of being oppressed," and said, "This country has never nominated a presidential candidate with numerous criminal charges. The defeat in the presidential election is the stern judgment of the people on the allegations of committing crimes by colluding with dark forces, local powers, and interest cartels."

He added, "If the prosecution's investigation is unfair and insulting, then explain more actively and fight," sarcastically noting, "You remain silent before the prosecutors but boldly claim to the media that it is 'insulting and unjust.'"

He further stated, "It is impossible in a democratic country for the prosecution to fabricate crimes that do not exist," and said, "Do not mention the presidential election defeat and the suffering of the people. Lee Jae-myung himself is a symbol of the regression of democracy."
