[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] Gyeonggi Arts Center announced on the 31st that Seo Chungi (64·photo) has been appointed as the 10th president. The term is 2 years.
Newly appointed President Seo Chungi will officially begin his term on the 31st after receiving the appointment letter from Kim Dongyeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province. He was appointed by the governor on this day following the ‘Gyeonggi Arts Center Executive Recommendation Committee’ and the personnel hearing at the Provincial Council on the 19th.
President Seo earned a Ph.D. in Architectural Engineering from Hanyang University Graduate School. He has also served as General Director of the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts Seoul Metropolitan Arts Group, a professional consultant for performance venues at the Korea Arts & Culture Centers Association, an operating committee member of Anseong City’s Anseong Matchum Art Hall, and a lecturer on musical and opera appreciation methods at the Seoul 50 Plus Foundation. He was an associate professor in the Department of Architectural Engineering at Hanyang University. In 2012, he received his Ph.D. in Architectural Engineering with a focus on indoor acoustics from Hanyang University Graduate School, conducting research on traditional Korean music orchestra instrument arrangement and acoustic design standards for halls dedicated to traditional Korean music.
As the future management vision of Gyeonggi Arts Center, President Seo presented “Operating the highest-status performance venue and arts group in domestic culture and arts.” The detailed plans include ▲strengthening artistic capabilities and creating a new artistic ecosystem ▲innovation of personnel and organization ▲expansion of infrastructure for everyday arts and future generations ▲resolving cultural and artistic imbalances between southern and northern Gyeonggi.
President Seo said, “As a representative public performance venue of Gyeonggi Province, we will set and implement policy agendas to respond to paradigm shifts in performing arts and various changes for the future,” adding, “I hope Gyeonggi Arts Center becomes a place with pride and our own unique stories, and I will find ways for culture and arts to make Gyeonggi residents happy and a driving force in their daily lives.”
