Introducing Dacor Built-in Appliance Packages... Aggressively Targeting Developed Markets

[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Samsung Electronics is participating in the largest kitchen and bathroom exhibition in North America to showcase smart home technologies and built-in appliances. This move is interpreted as a strategy to boost profitability by actively exporting to the advanced built-in market. It aligns with LG Electronics' plan to export its UP appliances, a service that offers product upgrades after purchase in North America this year.

On the 31st, Samsung Electronics announced that it will participate in 'KBIS 2023,' held in Las Vegas, USA, until the 2nd of next month (local time). This is the largest kitchen and bathroom exhibition in North America, with over 420 companies participating and about 70,000 visitors. Samsung Electronics has prepared an exhibition space of 1003㎡ (approximately 300 pyeong) together with the US luxury built-in kitchen appliance company Dacor, which it acquired in 2016.

Choi Ik-su, Vice President of Samsung Electronics' Home Appliance Business Division, said, "Samsung Electronics is expanding the possibilities of customized appliances while focusing on solutions for a sustainable daily life. Through KBIS, we will convey the differentiated value of Samsung Electronics home appliances to American consumers and strengthen our market leadership."

They will exhibit eco-friendly activities covering the entire lifecycle of products, including production, distribution, use, and disposal. The 'SmartThings Energy' service will be introduced. This service helps users check the power consumption of devices connected to Samsung Electronics' home appliance platform SmartThings at a glance. An 'Artificial Intelligence (AI) Saving Mode' is also installed to save device energy when the target usage is exceeded. This service has been recognized in the US, receiving the Energy Star certification from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the CES 2023 Innovation Award.

Samsung Electronics is expanding collaboration with solar panel company Hanwha Q CELLS and home solar inverter brand 'SMA.' They will introduce efforts to realize the 'Net Zero Home.' Exhibits include a microplastic reduction washing machine developed in collaboration with Patagonia, as well as durable parts such as digital inverter motors and compressors.

Visitors will experience hyperconnectivity between devices. Samsung will showcase the 'Bespoke Refrigerator Family Hub Plus' equipped with a 32-inch screen that is more than twice as large as before. The 'Bespoke AI Wall Oven,' featuring a camera and 'AI Pro Cooking' algorithm, will also be introduced. Additionally, 'Calm Tech-based Easy Connection' technology, which allows devices to operate automatically based on SmartThings, will be presented. Calm Tech refers to technology that provides customized services before the user even notices.

Attention is also drawn to the exhibition of Dacor's latest built-in lineup. Three types of built-in kitchen appliances?'Contemporary,' 'Transitional,' and 'Infinite Line'?will be showcased. In particular, the 'Gas Cooktop' and 'Pro Range' products, scheduled for release in the first half of this year, will be unveiled. These products not only offer powerful heat but are also designed to perform functions such as preheating and temperature control by linking with the SmartThings app. They recommend optimal cooking methods for each menu.

The new 4-door French door refrigerator supporting SmartThings enhances convenience with features such as 'Fresh Zone,' 'Fresh Zone Plus,' 'Auto Fill Water Purifier,' and 'Dual Ice Maker.' It offers three refrigeration temperature options and strengthens services like automatic water refilling.

A 'My Bespoke' zone, which will start service in the US next month, will also be set up. The plan is to exhibit refrigerators that are one of a kind in the world by applying designs, photos, and artworks. Users can upload their desired designs through Samsung.com, and door panels printed using digital printing techniques will be delivered to their homes. The price is $300 (approximately 370,000 KRW) per panel.

For the first time, the metaverse-based 3D home appliance experience service 'Bespoke Home Virtual' will be introduced. A 146-inch 'The Wall' screen will display a 3D home. Visitors can examine Bespoke Home appliances such as refrigerators, induction cooktops, and built-in ovens from various angles.
