The Mayor Personally Reports, Responds to Residents’ Questions, and Engages in On-site Communication and Dialogue
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwangjin District (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) launched its ‘Neighborhood New Year Project Reporting Meetings’ for the Year of the Rabbit on January 30, starting with Gunja-dong, marking the beginning of this year’s field-centered communication efforts.
These reporting meetings, organized to share the district’s vision, strategies, and major project plans for each area along with New Year greetings, were attended by about 100 people including Mayor Kim Kyung-ho, members of the National Assembly, city and district council members, and representatives of Gunja-dong residents from various sectors, adding prestige to the event.
Notably, this reporting meeting broke away from the conventional formal neighborhood work report format. Mayor Kim Kyung-ho personally presented the plans and responded to residents’ opinions and suggestions, showing genuine engagement with the vivid voices from the field.
Mayor Kim announced the six core strategies of the 8th elected term?▲Balanced Development ▲Mutual Welfare ▲Economic Vitality ▲Culture and Education ▲Safety and Environment ▲Open Communication?along with major projects for each area, including the ‘Full-scale Promotion of Gunja Station District Urban Development,’ covering Neung-dong, Gunja, and Hwayang areas.
He then said, “Starting with Gunja-dong this time reflects the incorporation of opinions received last September,” emphasizing the importance of communication and encouraging an active dialogue atmosphere with residents. Responding to Gunja-dong residents’ suggestion that events are always held last due to the order of the organizational chart, the district began the reporting meetings with Gunja-dong.
Residents actively raised various issues, including ▲questions about the development direction of Gwangjin Square ▲solutions to parking problems using idle areas ▲difficulties faced by senior centers. After attentively listening, Mayor Kim responded, “We will do our best to make Gunja-dong’s development visible,” and promised to personally inspect complaints requiring on-site visits, assuring thorough review and feedback from the responsible departments.
Additionally, Gunja-dong introduced special projects such as the re-launch of the ‘Gunja Sharing Association,’ which forms a community supporting neighbors in need through donations, volunteer work, and talent sharing, and the ‘Night Patrol with Residents’ held every third Tuesday of the month.
Moreover, a heartwarming story emerged when a household visit to guide residential convenience cleaning services, prompted by a landlord’s complaint, led to the discovery of a family in crisis. Gunja-dong provided tailored services to a patient requiring emergency surgery for cirrhosis and an elementary school child, coordinating continuous support through Good Neighbors and World Vision.
The district plans to continue the Neighborhood New Year Project Reporting Meetings, visiting all 15 neighborhoods until February 8.
