Police Neglect Intoxicated Person During Cold Wave... Charged with 'Negligent Homicide in the Course of Duty'

Police officers are under investigation after they failed to confirm that a drunken man in his 60s had entered indoors during a cold wave and left the scene, resulting in his death.

On the 30th, the Gangbuk Police Station in Seoul announced that Sergeant A and Corporal B, members of the Mia Police Substation, were booked without detention on charges of professional negligence causing death. They responded to a report of an intoxicated person in the early morning of November 30 last year and took Mr. C, a man in his 60s who was intoxicated, to the front of a multi-family house located in Suyu 1-dong, Gangbuk-gu, his registered address, around 1 a.m.

However, it was reported that they left the scene without confirming that Mr. C had entered indoors. The lowest temperature in Seoul that day was -8.1 degrees Celsius. Mr. C, who was left unattended for over six hours, was found dead around 7 a.m. The police are investigating the specific circumstances of the incident.
