[Wando=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do, is experiencing difficulties such as restricted water supply due to prolonged drought, recording the lowest rainfall since 1973. Amid this, donations of bottled water from sister local governments, companies, and social organizations continue, bringing warmth to the local community.
According to the county on the 30th, from December last year to the 12th of this month, Wando-gun has received 704,800 bottles of donated bottled water.
The places that sent bottled water to Wando-gun include Gimje-si, Cheonan-si, Yangpyeong-gun, Community Chest of Korea, GS Retail (Gwangju Jeonnam Headquarters), iCOOP Natural Dream, Korean Red Cross, Disaster Relief Association, Save the Children, and the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation.
Additionally, Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, and Gangwon-do also participated in the "Drought Overcome Bottled Water Support Relay" hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, providing bottled water.
The drought relief was delivered to islands and areas facing water shortages such as Nohwa, Bogil, Soan, Geumil, Gogeum, Yaksan, and the county.
Currently, the county is implementing restricted water supply targeting Nohwa-eup, Nohwa Neopdo, Soan-myeon, Geumil-eup, and Bogil-myeon. The population in the restricted water supply areas is about 19,000, and the weekly bottled water needed is approximately 42,000 bottles.
Companies and volunteer organizations, upon hearing about this situation, have been extending their support to Wando-gun since last year.
A county official said, "We deeply thank those who sent bottled water," adding, "The donated bottled water is being properly delivered to residents, and the county will do its best to overcome the drought problem."
