[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province is promoting the establishment of a Public Medical Support Group to effectively provide citizens with high-quality public health care services.
To this end, Seongnam City has prepared the "Ordinance on the Establishment and Operation of the Public Medical Support Group," the first of its kind among local governments nationwide, and announced it for legislative notice on the 30th.
The ordinance includes provisions on the composition and functions of the Public Medical Support Group, as well as related guidance and supervision.
To efficiently implement public health care policies, it also mandates the annual establishment of related business plans.
The role of the Public Medical Support Group is specified as supporting the establishment of public health care plans based on local conditions, developing and disseminating projects, conducting local health care surveys and research, and supporting the establishment of cooperative systems among public health care institutions.
Additionally, it provides for education and training of public health care institution workers, the construction and monitoring of statistical data on public health care resources, and technical support to improve the management and service levels of public health care institutions.
A city official explained, "The role of public medical care has become more important due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the advent of a super-aged society," adding, "This ordinance is being promoted to strengthen the public health care support system and improve citizens' health levels."
The ordinance will collect citizens' opinions during the legislative notice period until the 20th of next month and will be submitted to the Seongnam City Council's extraordinary session held in April.
