[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Police officers jumped into the cold water to save a mother and daughter who entered the sea.
According to the Busan Nambu Police Station, at around 7:48 PM on the 27th, a woman in her 50s, Ms. A, walked into the sea at Gwangalli Beach intending to commit suicide.
Ms. B, her daughter in her 20s who was nearby, saw her mother enter the sea, reported it to the police, and then jumped into the sea to save Ms. A.
Officer Go Seung-hyun, who responded to the report, found the mother and daughter in the sea and immediately jumped about 30 meters into the water, persuading and rescuing the mother.
Later, Lieutenant Jeon Hyeong-il, who followed into the sea, rescued the daughter who was nearby along with Officer Go.
On that day, the temperature in Busan was a minimum of minus 5°C, and the usual winter sea temperature is around 9 to 10°C. Because the winter sea temperature is low, staying in the water for just 10 minutes can lead to hypothermia and death.
It is known that Ms. A had lost her husband several years ago and, having no one to rely on, was struggling with life and attempted suicide.
Officers Go and Jeon determined that although Ms. A and Ms. B did not have any significant external injuries, emergency hospitalization was necessary, so they were admitted to the hospital.
