[Asia Economy Reporter Kwak Minjae] Kolon Global announced on the 30th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on ‘Next-Generation Construction Technology Development’ with the Next-Generation Convergence Technology Institute, a specialized research institute for advanced science convergence technologies.

This MOU aims for mutual cooperation in research and development and technology exchange across the construction technology sector, including smart construction, environment, and energy. Kolon Global and the Next-Generation Convergence Technology Institute have agreed to promote joint R&D for technological cooperation, shared use of infrastructure such as facilities and equipment, and exchange of technical personnel.
As for detailed initiatives, in the smart construction sector, they will explore cooperation plans utilizing the Next-Generation Convergence Technology Institute’s DT (Digital Transformation)-based safety diagnostics, disaster safety management platforms, drone image processing, and digital twin technologies. In the environment and energy sector, research collaboration will also be pursued on convergence technologies such as microbial treatment of food waste, utilization of microalgae, and microbial fuel cells.
A Kolon Global official stated, “Through collaboration with the Next-Generation Convergence Technology Institute, which possesses the nation’s top technological capabilities and research infrastructure in advanced science fields such as new materials, IT convergence, and eco-friendly energy, we expect the driving force behind Kolon Global’s new business initiatives to be further strengthened,” adding, “We plan to continuously strive to achieve technological outcomes that lead the construction industry and future advanced technology markets.”
Meanwhile, Kolon Global is promoting innovative technology convergence in line with digital transformation. Through strategic partnerships with smart construction technology companies, it has established an advanced integrated control center and plans to additionally introduce an integrated database management system for design, construction, and post-management. A 3D spatial data and digital twin platform utilizing drones and Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology is also set to be applied on-site. In the environment and energy sector, it is securing technologies such as microbial electrolysis and hydrogen production from organic waste.
