[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] On the 29th, users experienced inconvenience due to connection failures on LG Uplus's wired internet network.
According to the telecommunications industry, from around 5:58 PM on that day, for about 22 minutes, some LG Uplus users experienced disconnections in wired internet and Wi-Fi access.
Earlier, at around 2:06 AM on the same day, a similar connection failure occurred, lasting about 19 minutes.
LG Uplus estimated that the connection failure was caused by a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack targeting internal servers.
An LG Uplus official explained, "The failure occurred as a large volume of data presumed to be from a DDoS attack was incoming."
It has been confirmed that LG Uplus reported this incident to the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA).
Security authorities stated that there is no connection to the hacker group 'XiaoQiying,' which was identified as the perpetrator of cyberattacks during the Lunar New Year holiday. A Ministry of Science and ICT official said, "We need to verify the details of the DDoS attack," adding, "There appears to be no activity from those referred to as XiaoQiying."
