[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yuk-bong] Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 29th that it will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the ‘Unam Complex Culture and Sports Center’ at the Gyeongyang Elementary School playground in the district on the 30th.
The Unam Complex Culture and Sports Center is a large-scale living SOC complex project by region that Buk-gu has been focusing on since the 7th local government administration, and it was promoted by reflecting various opinions of local residents who wish to expand living cultural infrastructure.
In particular, securing the project site through close cooperation with the City Office of Education in 2021 and being selected for the living SOC complex project contest hosted by the Office for Government Policy Coordination accelerated the project progress.
With this groundbreaking, Buk-gu plans to invest a total project cost of 13.34 billion KRW to newly construct the Unam Complex Culture and Sports Center on the Gyeongyang Elementary School site by May next year, with a total floor area of 4,170㎡ and a scale of one basement floor to three above-ground floors.
Once the building is completed, the ground floors will house the National Sports Center, Living Culture Center, Dahamkke Care Center, and Teacher Support Center, while the basement will be developed as a residential parking lot.
Moon In, Mayor of Buk-gu, said, “Once the Unam Complex Culture and Sports Center is completed, it is expected to greatly enhance the convenience of life for residents in the area,” and added, “We will steadily complete the living SOC complex project, which will serve as a starting point for a healthy and dignified life enjoyed by all residents.”
Meanwhile, Buk-gu is taking a step closer to the ‘10-minute Living SOC Renaissance Era’ by successfully completing major living SOC complex projects promoted since the 7th local government administration, including Jungheung Library, Sinyong Administrative Complex Town, Bandabi Gymnasium, Buk-gu Comprehensive Gymnasium, and Usan Living Sports Center.
