[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jo Hangyu] Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do will maintain a 10% discount on the local currency Jangseong Love Gift Certificate throughout this year.
It is expected to greatly help revitalize the local economy and reduce household burdens.
Previously, despite the reduction in national government support for local currency, the county decided to increase the issuance amount of gift certificates by 5 billion KRW this year, expanding it to 35 billion KRW.
Accordingly, the previous operation policy of applying a 10% discount only during the holiday periods of January-February and September-October, and a 6% discount during normal times, was planned to be reapplied.
However, due to the recent increase in national government support, the 10% discount period will be extended until the end of this year.
The Jangseong Love Gift Certificate is a local currency used like cash at about 1,700 affiliated stores within the region.
It can be purchased up to 500,000 KRW per person per month at Jangseong area Nonghyup, Shinhyup, and Saemaeul Geumgo. With the 10% discount applied, one resident can receive benefits worth up to 600,000 KRW annually.
However, corporations and organizations are excluded from the discount.
Kim Hanjong, the mayor of Jangseong-gun, said on the 29th, "Although the indoor mask-wearing regulation will be relaxed starting from the 30th and daily life recovery is in full swing, the local economy is still frozen," adding, "The extension of the 10% discount on gift certificates is expected to be a great help in boosting the livelihood economy and overcoming the management difficulties of small business owners."
