[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced on the 29th that it will conduct safety inspections of distributed food for the first quarter from the 30th of this month to the 17th of next month.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety establishes an annual "Safety Inspection Plan for Distributed Food" and conducts sampling and inspections of distributed food. This year, considering food consumption trends and records of non-compliance, the ministry will focus on sampling and inspecting ▲ foods with non-compliance occurrences in the past three years (first quarter) ▲ foods marketed and sold with diet effect claims (second quarter) ▲ insect-processed foods (third quarter) ▲ handmade cakes (fourth quarter).
The target for the first quarter inspection includes a total of 360 domestic distributed food items such as sauces, teas, honey, processed grain products, tofu, fruit and vegetable juices, bread, which have frequently shown non-compliance in safety inspections and self-quality inspections, as well as ramen (fried noodles), snacks, and seasoned laver that have shown non-compliance during export country customs inspections. Products judged as non-compliant in the inspection will be subject to administrative measures, recalls, and disposal according to relevant laws and regulations.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety stated, "We will continue to strengthen safety management by conducting regular safety inspections of distributed food and strictly take action against violations to create a safe food environment."
