[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] At around 6:09 PM on the 28th, water poured down due to a ceiling leak at the IKEA Gwangmyeong store, causing an elevator entrapment incident.
Firefighters who arrived at the scene rescued 6 and 3 people respectively from two elevators where the entrapment occurred. There were no injuries. The fire department reported that the ceiling leak was caused by a burst water pipe and halted the operation of all elevators, completing the rescue operation in about an hour.
Additionally, due to safety concerns, the store was ordered to close early and customers were evacuated. There were also testimonies from users that water had fallen in the parking lot and other areas.
The fire authorities plan to conduct follow-up measures such as safety inspections at the site.
