[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will continue to promote the 'Industrial Tourism Activation' project this year to expand new tourism resources and revitalize the local economy. Industrial tourism is a tourism model that utilizes industrial resources, sites, and products with cultural or social value as tourism resources.

For example, visiting factories to observe food processing procedures, visiting corporate promotional exhibition halls, and experiencing the making of traditional handicraft products are representative examples.

This year, the province will expand support for industrial tourism sites to establish a foundation for developing competitive industrial tourism products.

Beyond the existing method of supporting the production costs of promotional materials for industrial tourism sites, the province will provide consulting on product commercialization plans and educational programs to strengthen the capabilities of tourism sites.

To this end, a roundtable meeting will be held in the first half of the year targeting industrial tourism sites within the province.

Additionally, to develop industrial tourism products through cooperation with travel agencies, travel agencies will be selected through a public contest in the first half of the year, and products will be composed to include various industrial tourism sites in travel courses.

Furthermore, promotion and marketing to strengthen awareness of industrial tourism will be continuously pursued. Promotional materials such as videos will be produced, introduction pages will be operated, and familiarization tours will be conducted targeting domestic and international inbound (visiting Korea) travel agencies to attract foreign tourists.

From 2021 to 2022, through the industrial tourism activation project, the province discovered 58 industrial tourism sites including Samsung Innovation Museum and Philux Lighting Museum. Familiarization tours were also conducted for domestic and international travel agencies to introduce industrial tourism, and introduction pages were operated on the Gyeonggi Tourism Portal along with the provision of promotional materials.

Choi Yong-hoon, head of the Tourism Industry Division of the province, stated, "This year, as the industrial tourism activation project enters its third year, we will expand various supports from the province to enhance the competitiveness of industrial tourism," adding, "We expect this to invigorate the tourism industry in Gyeonggi Province."
