Seoul City to Recruit Participating Citizens Starting from Next Month 1st
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The Jungbu Park Leisure Center of Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 30th that it will recruit participants to cultivate a healthy garden while practicing eco-friendly farming culture in the garden located within Yongsan Family Park starting from the 1st of next month.
The eco-friendly garden at Yongsan Family Park is a space created to provide citizens with opportunities to experience eco-friendly farming in daily life, encouraging them to reconsider environmental issues and cultivate eco-friendly values. Above all, through the joy of cultivating and harvesting the garden, participants can recharge emotionally and enjoy a healthy leisure life within the park.
Now in its 11th year of collaboration with citizens, the eco-friendly garden at Yongsan Family Park operates under five principles of "5 No's": ▲No chemical fertilizers ▲No chemical pesticides ▲No vinyl mulching ▲No trash bins (taking trash back) ▲No genetically modified organisms, aiming to foster an eco-friendly farming culture that cares for the environment and cultivates a healthy garden.
Within the eco-friendly garden at Yongsan Family Park, a barrier-free garden has been established to provide gardening opportunities for park users with disabilities, allowing wheelchair users to conveniently cultivate the garden.
Eligibility to apply includes any Seoul citizens interested in pesticide-free eco-friendly gardening, whether individuals or groups. Duplicate applications are not allowed, and only one household or one group can apply per plot.
Detailed information regarding recruitment can be found on the Seoul city website and the notice board within the Seoul Parks website. For inquiries, contact the Park Leisure Department at the Jungbu Park Leisure Center.
Jaeho Ha, Director of the Jungbu Park Leisure Center, Seoul, stated, “Gardening is an opportunity to think once more about the environment and also serves as a time for physical and emotional healing and recovery.” He added, “We hope many citizens will show interest and participate to enjoy a healthy leisure life in the park.”
