Chinese State Council: "13 Dead in Liaoning Chemical Plant Explosion"

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Onyu] It has been revealed that 13 people died in a chemical plant explosion accident that occurred in Liaoning, China.


According to China Central Television (CCTV) on the 27th, the State Council of China announced that 13 people died and 35 were injured in the Liaoning chemical plant explosion accident that occurred on the 15th.


The State Council's Work Safety Committee stated, "Preliminary investigation results confirmed the casualties as such," and pointed out, "There were significant safety management flaws in the company, and potential risks have not been completely eliminated."

They continued, "During the special inspection period to rectify potential risks threatening production safety, an accident causing large-scale casualties occurred," and demanded, "Taking this accident as a lesson, thorough safety risk management must be ensured, special inspections of chemical equipment conducted, and safety diagnoses of facilities with risks of poisoning, fire, and explosion strengthened."


The explosion accident occurred at around 1:25 p.m. on the 15th at a chemical plant in Panshan County, Panjin City, Liaoning Province. At that time, the Panshan County Propaganda Department announced that 2 people died, 12 were missing, and 34 were injured.


Videos released by Chinese media showed bright red flames and black smoke rising from a structure believed to be a chemical storage tank, covering the sky.


Windows were broken and doors damaged in areas 2 km from the accident site, and the explosion was so powerful that the sound was heard even 25 km away.
