Pledging a "Leap to the World" for Pohang in the New Year

The regular general meeting was held with the attendance of about 200 association members, including distinguished guests such as Mayor Kang-deok Lee, City Council Chairman In-gyu Baek, and Vice Chairman Yong-seon Park of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Council.
The meeting proceeded in the order of a pre-ceremony performance, a ceremony for delivering rice cake soup rice cakes of love, greetings, a performance, awarding of plaques of appreciation, and commemorative photo session, celebrating last year’s achievements and reaffirming new resolutions.
At the end, starting with Mayor Kang-deok Lee’s powerful slogan, “Creativity, Convergence, Innovation, Pohang Leaping into the World!”, about 200 association members held up the 2023 Pohang City four-character idiom ‘Chunsekmanseong (春色滿城)’ and shouted “Pohang!” loudly three times, drawing attention with their resolute performance.
Kim Yong-jae, president of the Pohang Lifelong Education Leaders Association, said, “Last year, we felt great pride through various achievements such as the official registration of the senior abacus competition in the Korea Record Institute and holding a small festival at Cheongnim University Happy Learning Village,” adding, “This year, we will also devote ourselves to revitalizing lifelong education in the villages.”
Since 2009, Pohang City has produced a total of 647 lifelong education leaders up to the 11th training course last year. In particular, it achieved great results in the lifelong learning field, including winning the ‘Excellence Award’ in the Gyeongbuk Province lifelong education policy evaluation last year and Mayor Kang-deok Lee being elected as the representative of the Gyeongbuk region in the National Lifelong Learning Cities Association.
It was recognized for outstanding achievements by winning three categories (Good Policy Award, Partnership Award, Lifelong Educator Person Award) in the ‘1st Korea Lifelong Learning City Good Policy Awards’ contest.
This year, marking the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Lifelong Learning Center, the city plans to actively promote customized projects that bring new educational content closer to citizens.
Mayor Kang-deok Lee said, “This year, we will continue to work with the Lifelong Education Leaders Association to strengthen public-private cooperation,” and added, “Let us all unite as one to create Pohang, the nation’s best lifelong learning city.”
