Providing Convenience for Train Use... Increase in Tourists Expected
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] On the 27th, Jeonnam Sinan-gun and Mokpo City announced that they have reached an emergency agreement to operate the intercity buses (No. 1004, 20004, 3004) passing through Mokpo Station, and will operate the routes between Mokpo Bus Terminal and Mokpo Station starting from the 1st of next month until the end of the emergency transportation period.
Since the opening of the Cheonsa Bridge in 2019, public transportation between Sinan and Mokpo has been a natural demand of the times, but due to failed negotiations with transportation companies, the buses have only operated up to Mokpo Bus Terminal until now.
As this situation hindered the mutual development of both cities and counties and failed to realize the significance of the bridge opening, there have been continuous demands to extend bus operations from Sinan to Mokpo Station. Through this recent agreement with Mokpo City, it is expected that operating intercity buses up to Mokpo Station will improve residents' convenience in using the KTX and alleviate transportation inconveniences.
A Sinan-gun official said, "The suspension of city bus operations in Mokpo has partially relieved citizens' transportation inconveniences, and it is expected that tourism in Sinan will become more convenient with KTX access, leading to an increase in tourists," adding, "It is regrettable that the bus operation to Mokpo Station is temporary (until the end of Mokpo City's emergency transportation period), which remains an issue to be resolved."
Meanwhile, the intercity buses between Sinan and Mokpo (Bus Terminal) are directly operated by Sinan-gun and run via Mokpo Station to the Bus Terminal. Seven intercity buses operate 21 times a day, and the fare for the Mokpo Station?Terminal section is free of charge.
