The Farmer and Fisherman Public Interest Allowance is a system introduced in 2020 by Jeollanam-do and local governments within the province to address rural issues such as population decline and aging, promote the public interest functions of agriculture and fisheries, and support sustainable development.
In Boseong-gun, 5.3 billion KRW was paid to 8,977 farmers in 2020, the first year of the allowance's introduction; 5.4 billion KRW to 9,122 farmers in 2021; and 5.6 billion KRW to 9,424 farmers in 2022.
Eligible applicants are farmers who are heads of agricultural, fishery, or forestry management entities registered with management information, who have continuously resided in Boseong-gun and engaged in agriculture, fishery, or forestry since before January 1, 2022.
However, those excluded from eligibility include ▲ individuals with comprehensive income of 37 million KRW or more outside of agriculture and fishery ▲ those who have fraudulently received subsidies such as direct payments ▲ public officials and employees of public institutions ▲ those subject to disciplinary actions under the Agricultural Land Act, Mountainous Area Management Act, Livestock Epidemic Prevention Act, or Fisheries Act ▲ cases where the head of the management entity and the actual resident have separated households while living together.
A Boseong-gun official stated, "Recipients of welfare benefits such as basic livelihood security should confirm before applying to avoid reduction or loss of their welfare benefits."
