Gokseong-gun to Collect 300 Seok of Gongyangmi Rice for Eye Disease Medical Expense Support

21 Years of Fundraising Campaign for Medical Expenses of Low-Income Families

[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cha Jong-seon] Jeonnam Gokseong-gun (Governor Lee Sang-cheol) announced that it will support medical expenses for eye diseases of low-income residents through the ‘Gongyangmi Sambaekseok Gathering’ campaign.


The ‘Gongyangmi Sambaekseok Gathering’ is a campaign to raise medical expenses for low-income people suffering from vision impairment such as cataracts and glaucoma, causing inconvenience in daily life.


So far, 500 million won has been raised and supported as cataract surgery expenses for 1,748 low-income individuals.

Recently, due to COVID-19, the fundraising campaign could not be conducted for two years, but about 7 million won was secured through the Gokseong Simcheong Children's Festival last October.


The raised funds were donated to the Jeonnam Community Chest of Korea and will continue to support eye surgeries steadily this year as well.


A county official said, “We ask for active participation in fundraising to help those struggling with eye diseases. We will do our best to realize a more prosperous Gokseong for its residents.”


The Gongyangmi Sambaekseok fundraising, led by Gokseong J.C and promoted for 21 years, was started to inherit the spirit of the filial daughter Simcheong and to spread filial piety culture. It conducts fundraising activities to detect eye diseases early among local residents, prevent blindness, and maintain vision that allows daily life.
