According to Seogwipo Fire Station on the 27th, a report was received around 3 a.m. on the 25th that a pregnant woman was about to give birth.
Seogwipo Fire Station dispatched the Daesin 119 Center ambulance team, who had received special paramedic training.
Senior paramedic Kang Dongsu, with over 20 years of experience, and paramedic Go Taejun, with 7 years of experience, monitored the patient's condition and quickly transported her to the hospital despite the worst conditions of heavy snowfall. They recognized that the labor pains were becoming regular during the transfer.
Prioritizing the mother's psychological stability, they prepared for emergency delivery inside the ambulance.
As the preparations for emergency delivery were completed, the baby's head began to appear, and a new life was born with a cry.
The paramedics promptly and accurately clamped the umbilical cord using an umbilical cord clip and safely handed over the mother and baby to the hospital.
Currently, the health condition of both the mother and the newborn is very good, and the guardian expressed gratitude by calling the Daesin 119 Center to show appreciation.
Each 119 ambulance is equipped with two sets of delivery treatment instruments per vehicle, maintaining readiness to respond to emergency deliveries in any situation.
Park Gwangchan, chief of Seogwipo Fire Station, said, “We conduct annual training on pre-hospital emergency delivery for paramedics, and next month we plan to invite a specialist for special training. We will continue to establish a rapid response system and actively work to strengthen protection for mothers and newborns.”
Meanwhile, Seogwipo Fire Station has responded to a total of 16 cases related to labor pains in the past three years.
