Busan Office of Education Announces Assignment of General High Schools Applying Equalization Policy

The number of assigned students is a total of 17,199, including 17,142 within the quota and 57 outside the quota at 89 standardized general high schools.

Students must attend the preliminary assembly of the assigned high school at 2 p.m. on the same day and complete enrollment registration from the 30th to the 31st.

However, since the enrollment registration method may vary depending on the school’s circumstances, students should check in advance on the assigned high school’s website, etc.

The general high school assignment applied the methods of ‘multiple applications by preference, followed by lottery assignment’ and ‘geographical information assignment within the commuting zone based on address information.’

The first stage was the metropolitan school district assignment, allocating 40% of each school’s quota from first-choice applicants, and the second stage was the regional school district assignment, allocating 20% of each school’s quota from second-choice applicants.

Additionally, the third and fourth stages assigned unfilled quotas from the first and second stages by lottery among applicants. The fifth stage assigned students who were not assigned in stages one through four to integrated school districts reflecting residential information within the commuting zone.

Jung Dae-ho, Director of Secondary Education at the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, explained, “There were many difficulties in assignment because the number of students was not evenly distributed by region and the application rates varied greatly by school. Therefore, we made efforts to assign students to their desired schools as much as possible by flexibly adjusting the number of students per class at each school.”
