[Namwon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Young-kwon] Jeonbuk Namwon City will implement the adjustment of the indoor mask-wearing mandate to Level 1 starting from the 30th, as three out of the four indicators for adjusting the indoor mask mandate?‘stabilization of patient occurrence,’ ‘reduction in severe cases and deaths,’ and ‘stable medical response capacity’?have been met.
According to the city on the 27th, as of the previous day, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Namwon City is 41,761 (53.6%), with 172 people currently in isolation.
The city will change the indoor mask-wearing mandate to a recommendation, but some facilities will be excluded from the Level 1 mandate adjustment.
The indoor mask-wearing mandate will be maintained in infection-vulnerable facilities, medical institutions and pharmacies, and public transportation.
Infection-vulnerable facilities include nursing hospitals, long-term care institutions, mental health promotion facilities, and welfare facilities for the disabled. Public transportation includes buses, railways, subways, passenger ships, ferries, taxis, and airplanes.
The city recommends wearing masks for two weeks from the date of contact if you have suspected COVID-19 symptoms, have been in contact with someone with suspected symptoms, belong to a high-risk group or have been in contact with a high-risk group, or have recently been in contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case.
It also strongly recommends wearing masks in 3-dense (closed, crowded, close-contact) environments where ventilation is difficult, and in situations where many people are densely gathered and engage in droplet-generating activities such as shouting, singing, or talking.
Han Yong-jae, Director of Namwon City Health Center, said, “Even if the indoor mask-wearing mandate is adjusted in the future, the protective effect and necessity of wearing masks do not disappear. We emphasize again that this is a change from a ‘legal obligation’ to a ‘wearing recommendation,’ and since immunity among high-risk groups is still insufficient, we strongly urge unvaccinated individuals to receive additional vaccinations.”
