Proposal to Be Submitted to the National Assembly and Relevant Government Ministries
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] The Gangwon Provincial Council announced on the 27th that "at the first extraordinary meeting of the Korea Council of Heads of Local Assemblies held in Ulsan on the 26th, the Gangwon Provincial Council and the Gyeonggi Provincial Council jointly proposed and passed the 'Resolution Urging the Early Commencement of the Extension of the Sejong~Pocheon Expressway to Cheorwon.'"

According to the Provincial Council, the background of this proposal is to directly connect the border area to the metropolitan area, improving accessibility between northern Yeongseo in Gangwon and northern Gyeonggi, with the aim of revitalizing the economy, industry, and tourism in the underdeveloped border region.
Before the resolution, Kwon Yeok-hyeol, Chairman of the Gangwon Provincial Council, emphasized the feasibility, stating, "The extension project of the Sejong~Pocheon Expressway to Cheorwon is a long-cherished wish of the Cheorwon region and an important project expected to bring revolutionary development to the border area."
Chairman Kwon said, "The early commencement of the Sejong~Pocheon Expressway extension to Cheorwon will also serve as an opportunity to accelerate balanced national development," adding, "We will maintain continuous interest at the council level and cooperate with the Gyeonggi Provincial Council to ensure early commencement."
The resolution passed on this day is scheduled to be officially delivered to the National Assembly and relevant government departments.
Meanwhile, the Gangwon Provincial Council added, "In connection with the '2023 Gangwon World Forest Expo,' the extraordinary meeting of the Korea Council of Heads of Local Assemblies will be held in Gangwon Province in October."
