Changwon Special City Expands Early Retirement Support Program for Old Diesel Vehicles

Up to Euro 4 Emission Standard Diesel Vehicles

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam Province is expanding the target of this year's early retirement support project for old diesel vehicles, implemented as part of fine dust reduction measures, from the existing emission grade 5 vehicles to include grade 4 vehicles.

The early retirement support target for old diesel vehicles will be expanded not only to emission grade 5 vehicles but also to emission grade 4 vehicles produced according to manufacturing standards up to August 2009. Additionally, the early retirement support target for construction machinery now includes forklifts and excavators manufactured before 2003, in addition to the three types of road-use construction machinery (dump trucks, concrete mixers, concrete pump trucks) manufactured before 2005.

However, vehicles judged as unable to operate normally and vehicles equipped with emission reduction devices through government support are excluded from the support target. Furthermore, additional support funds are available when purchasing emission grade 1 or 2 vehicles or LPG 1-ton cargo vehicles after scrapping old diesel vehicles.

To apply for Changwon City's early retirement support project for old diesel vehicles, vehicle owners must have been continuously registered in Changwon City for at least six months as of the application date, and the vehicle ownership period must also be at least six months. Vehicle emission grades can be checked on the automobile emission website.

For detailed application methods, refer to the announcement on the Changwon City website's notice/announcement section scheduled for February, and submit the application form and required documents by visiting the Climate and Air Quality Division at Changwon City Hall or by registered mail.

Kim Tae-soon, head of the Climate and Air Quality Division, said, “Since urban air pollution is greatly influenced by vehicle emissions, reducing old diesel vehicles through the early retirement support project is expected to have a significant effect on improving air quality by reducing fine dust. We ask for active participation from citizens.”
