Indonesian Borneo Island
An incident occurred in Indonesia where a crocodile carried the body of a missing child on its back and handed it over to people.
On the 24th (local time), the British daily Daily Mail reported that on the 18th, Muhammad Ziyad Wijaya (4), who lived near the Mahakam River on the island of Borneo, went missing while playing by the riverbank, and 36 hours later, a crocodile handed the child's body to fishermen.
According to the report, the Indonesian search and rescue team from Kalimantan conducted a search after receiving the missing person report but could not find the child. Meanwhile, two fishermen working on the river were suddenly approached by a crocodile carrying the child's body on its back.
An eyewitness to the situation said, "The crocodile, about 3 meters long, swam approximately 210 meters to the boat where the fishermen were," adding, "The crocodile stopped in front of the boat as if returning the body to the people, then disappeared below the surface shortly after."
The rescue team confirmed that the body retrieved by the fishermen was Muhammad's and that it was intact.
Melkanius Kota, the head of the rescue team in charge at the time, said, "Muhammad's body handed over by the crocodile to the fishermen was clean and without a single wound."
Meanwhile, although the cause of the child's death has not yet been determined, the police authorities believe that the child was not harmed by the crocodile, as there were no bite marks on the body.
Local media reported that this incident is very unusual.
