Strong Cold Wave Heating Cost Increase Promptly Decided
100,000 Won Each for 6,700 Low-Income Households in the City
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Busan City has decided to provide emergency heating cost support to 6,700 low-income households excluded from government aid due to the increase in heating costs caused by the cold wave.
On the 26th, Park Hyung-jun, Mayor of Busan, held an emergency meeting with related departments and made a sudden decision to support heating costs for low-income households in Busan.
As the government decided on the same day to double support for vulnerable groups during the winter season due to sharply rising heating costs, Busan City decided to provide emergency support to residents in welfare blind spots who do not receive government aid benefits.
The target for Busan City's emergency heating cost support is 6,700 low-income households in the city who do not receive government aid benefits. They will receive an immediate heating cost support of 100,000 KRW, with funding secured through the disaster relief fund.
Busan City has been providing various winter support measures to residents in welfare blind spots during the winter season. Following the support of 100,000 KRW for 6,700 low-income households in November last year, in December, electric mats were provided to 168 elderly living alone, and heating supplies were given to 2,400 single-person households.
Ahead of this Lunar New Year holiday, in response to the cold wave forecast by the Korea Meteorological Administration, heating supplies were provided to 900 households living in small rooms, and 2.7 billion KRW was allocated to support heating costs at 2,436 senior centers.
Mayor Park Hyung-jun said, “This winter, Busan is experiencing the strongest cold wave ever recorded, raising concerns about the health of vulnerable groups,” and added, “Busan City will pay closer attention so that neighbors struggling with rising heating costs do not have to endure a colder winter.”
