Hapcheon-gun Holds Emergency Meeting of Department Heads and Eup/Myeon Chiefs to Establish Public Service Discipline

Recent Violations of the Public Officials' Code of Conduct by Government Employees

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam held an emergency meeting for department heads and eup/myeon chiefs on the 26th to establish public service discipline following recent issues regarding violations of the public officials' code of conduct.


The meeting, presided over by County Governor Kim Yoon-cheol, was attended by about 50 county officials including Vice Governor Lee Seon-gi, heads of offices and bureaus, department heads, and eup/myeon chiefs. The agenda included reports on high-intensity anti-corruption measures to improve trust and integrity and reform the public service community, thorough reports on attendance management and trends, suspension of disaster text messages for COVID-19 confirmed cases, and cooperation on wildfire prevention.


Additionally, personnel actions such as removal from post and transfers were taken against four public officials involved in controversies over violations of the public officials' code of conduct.

Before the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's audit results were released, the county took preemptive personnel actions by removing one of the four officials under investigation from their post and transferring the other three to eup offices as disciplinary measures.


Governor Kim stated, “We will thoroughly establish public service discipline to ensure that such unfortunate incidents never occur again,” adding, “To correct laxity in public service discipline, we will prepare high-intensity anti-corruption measures including restrictions on private contact with job-related persons, compliance with reporting systems for monetary and real estate transactions with job-related persons, integrity education for all public officials, and establishment of a voluntary internal control system.”


Hapcheon-gun plans to promptly proceed with follow-up measures such as disciplinary resolution procedures according to the investigation results from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
