[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education will expand the operation of a child- and play-centered curriculum to allow children to experience learning through play, including the operation of a focused grade system for kindergarten learning growth.
The Office of Education established the "2023 Ulsan Early Childhood Education Operation Plan" containing these details and held an explanatory meeting on the 26th at the audiovisual room of the Ulsan Early Childhood Education Promotion Institute for all public and private kindergarten administrators.
The four major policies for Ulsan early childhood education this year are ▲realizing publicness in early childhood education ▲a child- and play-centered education support system ▲creating a safe educational environment for children with the participation of the educational community ▲establishing an early childhood education administrative support system.
To support a child- and play-centered curriculum, the Ulsan Office of Education operates a focused grade system for learning growth that reflects key competencies such as autonomy, communication and consideration, and cooperation in the kindergarten curriculum.
The focused grade system for learning growth is a curriculum designed to promote learning and growth of children and students and to develop key competencies at each growth stage.
The Office of Education plans to produce and distribute practical case materials of child- and play-centered classes this year and also hold sharing sessions for these practical cases.
Additionally, it will support 2 million KRW per class for operating a child- and play-centered curriculum and provide on-site support for curriculum operation to 90 kindergartens.
To support child- and play-centered classes utilizing digital devices such as electronic whiteboards, the Office operates a curriculum support group and distributes eight types of on-site support materials that children, teachers, and parents can use to help activate a play culture.
Within the curriculum, the Office strengthens ▲environmental education through play-centered experiential activities ▲Ulsan love education that fosters pride through various cultural and artistic activities ▲digital literacy education.
Survival swimming education will also be conducted for 400 five-year-old children in public and private kindergartens that wish to participate.
The Office of Education plans to expand the operation of parent-safe kindergartens from 20 last year to a total of 25 this year, including 10 public and 15 private kindergartens, conducting health and safety-related facility and equipment improvements along with related educational activities and enhancing teachers' safety capabilities.
In addition, customized educational finances will be supported for private kindergartens, and a support center will be operated to help stabilize the fully introduced integrated local education administrative and financial system, K-Edufine.
Support will also be provided for private kindergarten teachers’ basic salary subsidies, purchase of convenience items for pregnant teachers, short-term substitute teacher wages, and childcare leave allowances for teachers.
