Gwangju Buk-gu Receives 'Grade 2' in Comprehensive Integrity Evaluation

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 26th that it received a grade 2 in the ‘2022 Public Institution Comprehensive Integrity Evaluation’ conducted by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission.

In particular, in the ‘Integrity Effort’ category, Buk-gu was the only autonomous district in Gwangju to receive the highest grade of 1.

This integrity evaluation was determined by combining weighted scores from survey responses by public officials with experience working in public institutions and residents, along with anti-corruption activities and integrity efforts autonomously promoted by the institutions, then deducting points based on corruption status to assign the grade to the target institution.

Buk-gu raised its comprehensive integrity grade by two levels in one year from grade 4 in 2021, which was confirmed to be a much higher increase than the average rise among autonomous districts nationwide and all institutions overall.

Buk-gu has made concerted efforts involving all employees including senior officials to improve organizational culture through tailored integrity education by rank, integrity report simulation training, and operating an integrity week every month.

Last year, various integrity policies that residents can feel, such as the establishment of the Integrity Promotion Team to discover and implement departmental integrity practice tasks, resident integrity satisfaction surveys, and the Integrity Dispatch Team, received attention in this evaluation.

Additionally, the ‘Gapjil Filter Practice Code’ implemented to establish standards for eradicating gapjil (abuse of power) was evaluated as fresh and innovative.

Moon In, Mayor of Buk-gu, said, “Various policies and efforts to improve integrity have brought good results. We will continue to strive to realize trustworthy and transparent administration for residents and firmly root a culture of integrity in the public service community.”
