[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Busan Port Authority (BPA) recently achieved the highest grade, Grade 1, for the first time since its establishment in the 2022 Public Institution Comprehensive Integrity Evaluation conducted by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission.
The Public Institution Comprehensive Integrity Evaluation is a system implemented since 2002 by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission to assess the integrity levels of public institutions annually, aiming to improve corruption-prone areas in the public sector and spread a culture of integrity.
The evaluation consists of integrity perception, which assesses corruption awareness and experience in external and internal work processes, and integrity efforts, which evaluate the establishment, operation performance, and effectiveness of the institution's anti-corruption promotion system.
The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission evaluated BPA by stating, “The institution's capability to promote integrity policies is stable, and the head of the institution leads by example to improve integrity, discovering and implementing various and creative policies.”
To strengthen internal control, BPA conducts its own diagnosis and monitoring of ethical risk levels by job, and by preparing manuals and guidelines for corruption prevention and compliance, it obtained international standard certifications in October: the Anti-Bribery Management System (ISO37001) and the Compliance Management System (ISO37301).
BPA President Kang Jun-seok said, “Achieving Grade 1 in the comprehensive integrity evaluation is the result of all executives and employees prioritizing and practicing integrity as the highest value, and we will continue to make our best efforts to spread a culture of integrity throughout society in the future.”
