Total Cumulative Vehicle Registrations Reach 25.5 Million
Up 2.4% from Last Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Min-young] The number of eco-friendly vehicle registrations increased by nearly 40% compared to the previous year.
According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 26th, the cumulative number of registered vehicles at the end of last year was 25,503,000, an increase of 2.4% compared to the previous year.
The number of vehicles per capita was 0.5, with Seoul at 0.34, Busan at 0.45, Gyeonggi at 0.47, and Jeju at 1.02.
By origin, domestic cars accounted for 87.5%, while imported cars recorded 12.5%.
The market share of imported cars steadily increased from 10.2% in 2019 to 11.0% in 2020 and 11.8% in 2021.
Eco-friendly vehicles such as electric and hybrid cars increased by 37.2% compared to the previous year, accounting for 6.2% of the total cumulative registrations.
Electric vehicles reached a cumulative total of 390,000, up 68.4% from the previous year; hydrogen vehicles reached 30,000, up 52.7%; and hybrids reached 1,170,000, up 28.9%, respectively.
Gasoline vehicles increased by 2.6% compared to the previous year, while diesel vehicles and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) vehicles decreased by 1.2% and 2.1%, respectively.
