Ministry of SMEs Supports Growth of Shipbuilding and Steel SMEs in Crisis Areas with 5.4 Billion KRW Investment

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] The Ministry of SMEs and Startups is implementing the '2023 Crisis Area SME Scale-up Research and Development (R&D) Support Project' to support SMEs in crisis regions and industries.


This project provides customized on-site technical difficulty solutions to SMEs in crisis regions and industries through demand-driven R&D (Phase 1), and supports continuous growth such as new product development and product advancement by linking scale-up R&D (Phase 2).


The total support budget for this year is 5.4 billion KRW. Phase 1 will support 400 million KRW (4 million KRW per company, 100 projects, 100% government funding), and Phase 2 will support 5 billion KRW (100 million KRW, 50 projects, up to 75% of total project cost).


The eligible applicants are as follows: ▲ SMEs related to crisis industries (shipbuilding, automobile) located in special industrial crisis response areas in cities/provinces (Gyeongnam, Ulsan, Jeonbuk, Jeonnam) ▲ SMEs related to crisis industries (steel) located in preemptive industrial crisis response areas in cities/provinces (Gyeongbuk) ▲ SMEs located in areas designated as 'caution' or 'serious' crisis warning stages (to be decided by the end of January) ▲ SMEs located in special support areas for SMEs, etc.


Applications can be submitted from February 6 to March 6. Detailed information can be found on the Pan-Governmental Integrated Research Support System website.
