[Wando=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyungpil] The '62nd Jeollanam-do Sports Festival,' a sports festival for the unity of 2 million Jeollanam-do residents, will be held in Wando-gun for four days from May 12 to 15.
According to the county on the 25th, the organizing committee of the 62nd Jeollanam-do Sports Festival introduced the rules and viewing points of each event to make the games held during the festival more enjoyable for residents and tourists. This time, the featured event is 'Badminton.'

Badminton is a sport where players hit a shuttlecock back and forth over a net using rackets. When smashing, the shuttlecock's speed exceeds 300 km/h, making it one of the fastest ball sports and is listed in the Guinness World Records.
The badminton competition of the 62nd Jeollanam-do Sports Festival will be held for three days from May 13 to 15 at the Gogeum National Sports Center, with 180 players from 22 city and county teams competing to determine the strongest team.
The number of participants is between 6 and 9 players excluding the director and coach, and eligibility requires players to be from Jeollanam-do and have completed player registration for 2023.
Players from business teams, workplace teams, military teams, or school teams from other provinces are not allowed to participate.
The competition format is divided into mixed doubles, men's doubles, and women's doubles, conducted in a knockout tournament style.
In the 2023 62nd tournament, Hwasun-gun, which ranked first in all events in 2019 and first in two events in 2022, and Yeongam-gun, which placed second for two consecutive years behind Hwasun-gun, are expected to fiercely compete for first place, making this a key viewing point.
Also worth watching are the championship challenges from Yeosu-si, Mokpo-si, Suncheon-si, Yeonggwang-gun, and Sinan-gun, who faced disappointing eliminations in the quarterfinals and semifinals.
The host, Wando-gun, has so far achieved mid-level results, but whether it can leverage the home advantage to leap into the top ranks will also be a point of interest.
