Ulsan District Court Sentences Detention Center Staff to 6 Months for False Accusation Charges
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A man in his 40s who falsely accused detention center staff of "almost beating me to death" has been sentenced to serve more time in prison.
The Ulsan District Court Criminal Division 9 (Judge Hwang In-ah) announced on the 25th that it sentenced Mr. A, who was tried on charges of false accusation, to six months in prison.
Mr. A, who was serving a 10-month sentence for fraud at Ulsan Detention Center, was charged last June with submitting a false complaint to the police claiming that detention center staff tried to kill him.
According to the Ulsan District Court, Mr. A falsely filed a complaint and petition claiming that detention center staff had beaten him and secretly stabbed a large needle into his chest to kill him.
To convince the police, Mr. A secretly self-injured his chest area, but when the investigation began, he reportedly withdrew the complaint, saying he had been mistaken.
The court stated the reason for the sentence, saying, "The crime of false accusation is serious because it disrupts the state's criminal justice function with false facts and puts others at risk of criminal punishment."
