Busan District Court Suspends Prison Sentence for Special Injury and Confinement Charges
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A man in his 60s who tied up his wife, who refused marital relations, in a naked state and assaulted her has been given a suspended prison sentence.
The Busan District Court Criminal Division 6 (Judge Kim Jong-su) sentenced Mr. A, who was indicted on charges of special injury and special confinement, to 2 years in prison with a 3-year suspension.
Mr. A was brought to trial on charges of assault after demanding marital relations from his wife, Ms. B, in her 40s, at their home in Geumjeong-gu, Busan, around 11 a.m. on March 17 last year, and when Ms. B refused and demanded a separation, he used violence.
According to the Busan District Court on the 25th, Mr. A said, "I just couldn't break up, so I had to vent my anger," and after stripping Ms. B, he tied her hands and feet with a cloth.
Mr. A repeatedly struck Ms. B's head, face, and legs until a stick broke, causing injuries requiring five weeks of medical treatment. The assault lasted about three hours while her hands and feet were tied, and Mr. A is also charged with 'confinement.'
The court stated, "Considering that he has a prior record of the same kind but no history of punishment with imprisonment or higher, that he appears to be remorseful, and that he reached a settlement with the victim."
