[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice (July 27), government ministries are planning various commemorative projects, and the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs has unveiled a brand identity (BI) embodying the significance of 70 years.
According to the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs on the 25th, the '70th Armistice Anniversary' project brand combines the slogan "Amazing 70 Years Achieved Through Great Devotion" with the English word "AMAZING" and the design of the number "70." The design of the number 70 metaphorically expresses the meaning of the 70th armistice anniversary by using emoticons '^' and 'O', representing laughter and amazement respectively, an upward arrow symbolizing growth and leap, and the angle of the design representing the 22 countries that participated in the war. Additionally, the letter M, shaped like the Taegeukgi’s Geon (sky) trigram, harmonizes with the blue of the number 7 and the red of the number 0, evoking the Taegeukgi.
Starting with the official brand unveiling, the government will lead various commemorative projects for the 70th armistice anniversary under the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs. Next month, in collaboration with the online search platform Google, an online platform featuring over 5,000 Korean War contents will be launched, and the first offline event will also be held.
Large-scale public participation events are being prepared so that all generations, whether they experienced the Korean War or not, can reflect on the value and meaning of the armistice. In July, on the occasion of United Nations Forces Participation Day (July 27), representatives from the 22 countries that participated in the war will be invited to attend commemorative and memorial ceremonies. This will also provide opportunities to strengthen ties with participating countries through meetings such as the Veterans Affairs Ministers’ Conference. Programs are planned to visit UN participating countries, including the United States, to meet UN veterans and their descendants, perform cultural shows, express government gratitude, and promote South Korea’s cultural capabilities. Various academic conferences, special exhibitions, and future generation meetings both domestically and internationally will also be held.
This year marks the meaningful 70th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice Agreement on July 27, 1953, and the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Korea-US Mutual Defense Treaty on October 1, 1953. In this context, the government is also planning various events commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Korea-US alliance, which shares history with the armistice agreement. Korea and the US will jointly promote the UN Command member countries’ defense ministers’ meeting to strengthen solidarity with UN Command member countries and seek international support and cooperation for the government’s peaceful resolution of the North Korean nuclear issue and its unification and North Korea policies.
In particular, a "Future Alliance Joint Declaration" will be unveiled to evaluate the achievements of the Korea-US military alliance over the past 70 years and present a vision for its continued development as a global comprehensive strategic alliance. North Korea refers to the armistice agreement signing day as the "Victory Day of the Fatherland Liberation War" and holds commemorative events involving various government bodies and organizations.
