Namhae-gun Expands Health Insurance Premium Support for Over 2,300 Low-Income Households

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] Namhae-gun, Gyeongnam Province, will expand support households from January to alleviate the increased burden of National Health Insurance premiums and long-term care insurance premiums on low-income residents due to the reform of the National Health Insurance premium charging system.

Last year, with a budget of 125 million KRW, about 1,300 households were supported monthly, but this year, the budget will be increased by 83 million KRW to support about 2,300 low-income vulnerable households.

The support targets are National Health Insurance regional subscribers residing in Namhae-gun whose monthly National Health Insurance minimum amount, including long-term care insurance premiums, is below the monthly premium lower limit of 22,310 KRW announced by the Minister of Health and Welfare, and who are elderly aged 65 or older, disabled persons, or single-parent households.

Insurance premium support is provided by Namhae-gun receiving the list of eligible persons from the National Health Insurance Corporation every month, deciding on support, and directly paying the premiums to the corporation; no separate application procedure is required.

County Governor Jang Chung-nam said, “Through support for National Health Insurance premiums and long-term care insurance premiums, we will do our best to reduce the economic burden on low-income residents and ensure they can continuously receive stable medical services.”
